Rompers originated in France, but appeared in the United States in the early 1900's. They were popular as playwear for children because people thought they were ideal for movement.
Rompers were born from the bloomer costume for women, which appeared in 1849. Bloomers were created by Amelia Bloomer, a leader of the women's rights movement. She conceived of the costume to free women from the cumbersome, restrictive dress of the day.
Although there is quite a bit of controversy on men jumping on the romper fashion band wagon, we want to give credit where credit is due. If memory serves me right, Mr. Brown was the first man on National Television to sport this hot look! (See Picture Insert) 😂😂.
